Story of Packaging Tree

BLOG 1 IMAGE NOV 21 squared

Its been a whirlwind year!  One heck of a leap, from employment to setting up Packaging Tree Ltd.  And I loved it.  And I love it!

I’ve been itching to establish a business for a few years now.  And this year it happened.  After several months of what I’d like to call strategic reflection, the headline plans came together and started rolling.  And roll they did…. sometimes a rollercoaster…. with too many twists and turns and loop the loops.  Sometimes it seemed like an interminable tangle which had to be teased and unpicked.  And yet without this journey I don’t think I would have reached this stage without the satisfaction of checking out all the potential detours and distractions.  I’ve had a wonderful time exploring common issues experienced by clients looking at new materials and processes.

Here are a few of the high lights and low lights from my journey where time and people played leading roles.

I had the luxury of time…

  • I had time to breathe in the first few months of 2021 and it gave me the opportunity to stop and look at where I had been and where I wanted to be.  At the time I thought this period of time was a waste, but looking back it was necessary, normal and needed
  • I had time to talk to friends, peers, and supporters who gave me food for thought and some signposts on what was out there.
  • I was flattered by the number of calls from people looking out for me – giving me their time, their consideration and their care.
  • Of course, there were lots of ideas that had to be tried and tested before being parked! What was I thinking!   But the time on testing was invaluable to the learning & direction for Packaging Tree.

The value of people…

  • So many ideas and directions and strategies came to mind – unpicking it all – often requiring the biggest piece of paper of course – with true friends who kept me on the straight and narrow.  It was exhilarating, energising, inspiring and exciting.
  • Talking to lots and lots of people proved to be the best advice – often the edges of my network offered the most valuable insights.
  • And lots of long night walks with my husband – meetings on the hoof as we say.  Walking and talking – a good long walk certainly helps to clear the mind and get clarity!  Some walks were very long!
  • I thank whole heartedly the people who helped me to set up Packaging Tree for their patience, creativity, generosity, kindness and straight talking.

And guess what!

The biggest learning point! I’ve learned that my love of all things paper, pulp and packaging isn’t going away any time soon!
